It’s no secret that people are feeling more even more stressed out than usual. Between the economy, work, and family, South Floridians have a lot on their plates!

Rina Jakubowicz, Founder and Director of popular Miami yoga studios, Rina Yoga, has put together some moves to release physical stress and alleviate tension. Dealing with stress is one of the most effective ways to optimize your health and wellbeing, so just take a couple of minutes a day for yourself…surely your boss won’t mind!

1. Breathing technique for reducing stress:
• Count the duration of each inhale and the duration of each exhale. Start with a count of inhaling for three counts and exhaling for three counts. Go up to the number ten and start over at one.
2. Neck Stretch:
• Bring your left ear to your left shoulder and push your head down using your left hand. Hold for three breaths, then switch sides and hold for three breaths.
3. Back Stretch:
• Keeping your chair straight, scoot up to the front. Turn your upper body to twist the spine and grab the right side of the chair with your left hand and the left side of your chair with the right hand. Twist to the left for three breaths. Switch sides and hold for three breaths.
4. Shoulder & Chest Stretch:
• Grab your chair behind you, facing forward, and push the chest forward feeling the stretch in the front part of your shoulders and your chest. Hold this position for three breaths.
5. Wrist Stretch:
• Bring the backs of the hands to face each other in front of your chest with your arms bent. Press the back of the hands towards each other to stretch the front of the wrists. Hold for three breaths. Holding that position with the hands make fists with your wrists to work the muscle group.
